About the event

Summer StoryWalk®
This season, one of your favorite trails doubles as a storybook! Wander the Egg Lawn Signature Trail and read a children’s book page by page as you go. Each stop includes a new part of the story and fun activities. StoryWalk® is FREE, self-guided, and four different books will be featured across four weekends in 2026. Come out, explore, and enjoy reaching in the fresh air!

The Summer StoryWalk® is free and open to all from dawn to dusk. It will open on Friday, July 17th, and close on Sunday, March 19th. Our Featured Story is Give Bees a Chance by Bethany Barton.

Story Synopsis: From the author-illustrator of Children’s Choice Book Award Winner I’m Trying to Love Spiders: a plea to please give bees a chance! Not sure whether to high-five bees or run away from them? Well, maybe you shouldn’t high-five them, but you definitely don’t have to run away from them. Give Bees a Chance is for anyone who doesn’t quite appreciate how extra special and important bees are to the world, and even to humankind! Besides making yummy honey, they help plants grow fruits and vegetables. And most bees wouldn’t hurt a fly (unless it was in self-defense!). Bethany Barton’s interactive cartoon-style illustrations and hilarious narrator mean this book is full of facts and fun. With bees officially on the endangered animals list, it’s more important now than ever to get on board with our flying, honey-making friends!

StoryWalk® is an innovative and delightful way for children and adults to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from a children’s book are attached to temporary signs, which are installed along an outdoor path. As you stroll down the trail, you’re directed to the next page in the story. On the back of the signs, you will find more information and activity prompts. StoryWalks® have been installed in 50 states and 13 countries. The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
