Step Into History:
Second Annual Culper Spy Day 5K Returns to Setauket with New Course and Mission to Build the Future
Lace up your sneakers and get ready to trace the footsteps of American heroes! The Second Annual Culper Spy Day 5K returns to Setauket this fall, inviting runners, walkers, and families to journey through the heart of Long Island’s Revolutionary past.
Hosted in proud partnership with the Strong Island Running Club, this year’s event features an exciting new course map and an even greater purpose: all proceeds will support the construction of the Dominick-Crawford Barn History & Education Center, a future home for immersive, inclusive historical exploration in the Three Village area.
Scheduled for Sunday, September 7th, the Culper Spy Day 5K isn’t your average race—it’s a moving tribute to the brave civilians who formed the Culper Spy Ring, a secret network that played a pivotal role in securing America’s independence. Participants will wind their way past colonial homesteads, across once-contested farmlands, and along the wooded paths that harbored secrets and messages for General George Washington himself.
“This 5K is about more than fitness — it’s about living our history,” says Mari Irizarry, the Society’s Director. “With every mile, participants will experience the landscape that shaped the Revolution, and contribute to building a space where our community can gather, learn, and honor these stories for generations to come.”
The newly designed course weaves through some of Setauket’s most scenic and storied landscapes. All levels of ability are encouraged to register. Whether you're a seasoned runner, a stroller-pushing parent, or someone looking to enjoy a historic walk with friends, this event is for you. Costumes, colonial flair, and revolutionary spirit are highly encouraged!
The race will start off with stretches & speeches, and culminate with a family-friendly post-run celebration with medal winners in each age category. Racers will also hear exclusive updates on the Dominick-Crawford Barn History & Education Center, which will serve as a cornerstone of regional heritage, offering hands-on exhibits, rotating installations, and programming for learners of all ages.
Participants can register online now. Early registrants will receive a limited-edition Culper Spy Day 5K performance tee, race bib, and commemorative medal.
Join us in Setauket and be part of a movement—through time, community, and the cause of keeping history alive.
