About the event

DOGGOS and KIDDOS - Safety First!! (A Seminar)
NEW DATE!! September 19th, 6pm

Join us with Dr. Karen Griffin, PhD to learn how to promote positive dog-child relationships, and mitigate risks!

Many households have both children and dogs in them. However, this combination can cause challenges for two-legged and four-legged family members! In order to ensure that everybody is as happy and safe as possible, it is imperative that adults and children are well informed of, and are practicing, appropriate child-dog interactions. It is also important that children learn how to build positive and respectful relationships with dogs that are beneficial to both, while also mitigating risks that are associated with dogs and children in the home. This talk will be packed with useful information (based on science, of course!) for families, those working with them, and basically anyone who would like to make the world a little comfier and happier for pups! Part 2 of this seminar series is designed especially for the kids!! (This seminar, Part 1, is more interesting to parents, grandparents, teachers, daycare providers, and other care givers)

Dr. Karen Griffin, PhD is a canine research scientist in the field of shelter dogs and dog rehoming. She earned her doctorate in animal sciences at the University of Lincoln in Lincolnshire, England. The scope of her research experience and interest within this field includes how a dog fits into a home environment, what qualifies a successful dog placement, how to improve dogs’ welfare and quality of life. Her research is based in both the US and Europe, and she is focused on the practical and real world applications of its findings. With a background in the social sciences, Karen employs an interdisciplinary approach to her research. She is also the founder and Executive Director of The Dog Rehoming Project, a non-profit organization with the mission of bridging the gap between research and the people who need it, to put science behind dog sheltering and dog rehoming.
