"It All Started In Rensselaerswyck": An Industrial History Beginning in 1621

Join us at the Schodack Town Hall for a free program by the City of Rensselaer Historian Victor Batorsky! Reneselaerswyck was and continues to be America's first, and oldest, continuously operating industrial settlement. To this day, the Dutch West India Company Charter of 1622 made this place in New York part of the world’s largest and first international capitalist public offering, authorizing the establishment of Rensselaerswyck as the western counterpart to the Dutch East India Company. Rensselaerswyck’s domain of operations covered the whole of the western hemisphere at this point in time. The story of Rensselaer is the history of America.
