Tour of A Different Light: First Photographs of Aotearoa
Saturday 11 October 2025, 2.00pm-3.00pm
Hocken Collections, 90 Anzac Avenue, Central Dunedin
Hocken Photographs Curator, Anna Petersen, offers a 40-minute tour of the exhibition, A Different Light: First Photographs of Aotearoa followed by light refreshments. Coinciding with the European colonisation of Aotearoa, the invention of photography created an unprecedented prism through which to imagine and make sense of the world at a time of turbulent change. The presentation of this exhibition is a collaboration between Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum, Hocken Collections Uare Taoka o Hākena and Alexander Turnbull Library and draws on the collections of all three institutions with items dating from the 1850s to 1900.
This talk is presented as part of the Ōtepoti Dunedin Heritage Festival 2025.
