KINAESTHESIA
Kinaesthesia is a dance workshop that combines somatic and contemporary dance practices with a distinctive tribal flavour. Kinaesthesia is workshop designed by choreographer, dancer and instructor, Amber Gabrielle Stephens.
The class is open to all levels and ages.
The premise of Kinaesthesia is to offer tools to unlock physical blockages and discover new movement pathways. You will be lead through a series of exercises that bring you into mind-body connection then the journey takes you into various modalities of moving, from grounding steps to shaking out the cobwebs to circular flow motion.
The approach comes from safe practice. All movements and exercises have been designed with a healthy joint structure in mind, so that we move within the natural alignment principles of our skeletal and muscular design. We continue to move deeper into body-part awareness, from elbow to toe, pelvis and ribs. Tapping into possibility within specific areas then connecting the dots. The class will delve into structured improvisation within a safe, inclusive and conscious environment. Awareness of breath and the use of breath continues to assist our mind-body connection alongside beautiful music to encourage feeling into and through the body.

TESTIMONIALS FROM KINAESTHESIA DANCE WORKSHOPS
Jac Bolletta, manager of Nu Yoga Studio, Otepoti
Feedback from the Kinaesthesia workshops held at the studio
“Movement is an essential part of our primordial design, yet we explore it less and less through sedentary lifestyles and even more as we age. Limiting our movement vocabulary and motor co-ordination is unhelpful for living independently and fully in both body and mind. Kinaesthesia is an accessible and fun mode of movement for anyone to access, reigniting the joy of movement and reminding us of the significant shift in ourselves when we make small changes.”
Sarah Clare Judd
Kinaesthesia workshop participant
“Thank you so much for the workshop this morning, I had an absolute blast. I really really loved the whole thing to be honest, the shaping of the warmup, adding elements, and a final jam at the end was epic. Turning the music down when we were on the floor was much appreciated so we could hear your voice, and I also just really enjoyed the music across the board.”
Tim Gow, owner/organiser of Revitalise Festival, Southland.
“Julian Temple’s music performance at our Revitalize Festival seamlessly intertwined with the compositions, elevating the narrative through dance that spoke volumes. The intuitive understanding of rhythm and movement added a profound layer of storytelling, making each note and step a conversation in itself.”
“As for Amber’s dance workshop, it was an enlightening experience that pushed the boundaries of traditional dance and excited the audience to join her. Her innovative approach to storytelling through movement provided participants with not only new techniques but also a deeper appreciation for the art form. Amber’s ability to connect music with motion created a unique and transformative workshop experience.”
Zeb Horrell- organizer of Burning Horse Festival, Southland.
"Julian Temple has been gracing Burning Horse for several years now and is a crowd favourite. Not only how they rock on stage but how Amber's dance workshop, held earlier in the event has integrated into their sets showcasing their new moves. An amazing example of the co-creative energy we hope to foster at Burning Horse."
