Emily Dickinson once wrote, “Not knowing when the dawn will come, I open every door…”
For artist, author, and educator Suzanne Elizabeth Murphy, this sentiment captures the heart of her creative journey. After decades of painting and portrait commissions, Suzanne circled back to a story that began forty years ago—when she first faced her fear of scuba diving. That leap into the unknown led her to the beauty and mystery of coral reefs, inspiring her recently published children’s book, Mirabelle and the Sea Green Bathtub: Journey to the Coral Reef.
Just like her character Mirabelle, Suzanne’s story is one of courage, curiosity, and trust—reminding us that the greatest adventures often come when we embrace the unknown.
Suzanne has lived and created across the country—from New York City to Colorado, and now Florida, where she founded Open Sky Studio & Gallery in Tarpon Springs. She has taught extensively, served on the Tarpon Springs Public Art Committee, and previously shared her journey at DFAC’s Coffee & Conversation in 2016.
She is also the featured artist in the DFAC Gallery Shop, where visitors can explore and purchase her unique works.
☕ Join us for this special hour of storytelling, art, and inspiration as Suzanne shares her artistic journey and the deeper lessons behind her work.
