WELCOME

Hello, and welcome to the first meeting of Book, Brew and a Blether. This is the new book group by Helensburgh and Cardross Women's Coffee and Connection Club.

Please note: spaces are restricted to 8 people maximum and only those who have booked a ticket via Eventbrite can attend. If the event is full, please do join the Waiting List on Eventbrite and a ticket will be automatically released to you, should one become available.


FIRST MEETING

As it's the first meeting of the book club, I thought we would kick off with a short story. I can offer you a free copy of this for free. The reason we'll start with that is a) we haven't all put our book suggestions in the 'book bucket' yet and: 2) a short story gives us time to get to know each other a bit more, talk about the new group going forward and start writing down suggestions for future books. stories, plays, poetry and other fiction/non-fiction by women writers, to read and discuss.

For the first meeting, we will read Lauren Groffs's short story, 'Ghosts and Empties'. I will send a copy of this to those attending.


FUTURE MEETINGS

Meetings will take place on the first Thursday of each month between 6.30pm-8pm. The Cardross Inn has very kindly given us a free space to meet and discuss books. There is the expectation to purchase a hot/cold/alcoholic drink at each meeting. You can buy food before or during the meeting too, if you want. A menu is available on The Cardross Inn's website and on location at the venue. However, there is the expectation to purchase a drink at each meeting as a thank you for the free venue and help support local business.

Do you love books by women? Looking for a friendly, welcoming space to share your thoughts, sip coffee and dive into some great reads? If so, Book, Brew and a Blether is for you.

We are a monthly book club dedicated to celebrating women authors. The group was started in 2025 by a Cardross resident and invites women over 18 years in the Helensburgh, Cardross, Peninsula and Lomond areas who want to connect with other book lovers.

Books will span a range of authors and genres. So, whether you’re a lifelong bookworm or just rediscovering the joy of reading, this is your space to connect, read books, and have a blether over a brew.
