From 6:30 - 8:30pm, the DubHub will be transformed into the "Starlight Lounge," a retro jazz club celebrating the smooth, smokin’, sultry sounds of the 1930’s, ‘40’s and 50’s. The public is invited to dress up in fancy "duds" and dance the night away, or simply come to listen and step into a bygone era. If you love the music of Sinatra, Bennett, Martin, and more, you will flip for jazz great Paul Klemperer and his full band! We will provide the appetizers and the aesthetic. You are welcome to byob. Anything goes in a joint like this!
Born in Boston, MA, Klemperer discovered jazz at an early age, sneaking into smokey clubs by age 13. He studied with jazz legends Archie Shepp, Max Roach and Ray Copeland before moving to Austin in 1982. There he has worked with many great artists in the blues, roots and jazz traditions. Paul has a Masters degree in Ethnomusicology, has produced five CD’s of original compositions, and has toured nationally and internationally for over 30 years. He continues to divide his time between Austin and the road, bringing his soulful saxophone sound across the U.S., Latin America, Europe and Asia.
