We're headed to Spain. The Raventos family has been on the same estate since 1497. They brought the Champagne method back to Spain and created the first sparkling wine in the country. Organic and biodynamically-farmed vineyards. We're referring to Raventós i Blanc in the Penedes region just outside of Barcelona.
The family farms their estate vineyard as well as nearby Can Sumoi to create world-class sparkling wines and authentic still wines. Raventos i Blanc is where Cava was born before the family was involved with creating the designation. All organic farming and they use horses to plow. The Can Sumoi property is 350 years old and focuses on still wines and ancestral method, single varietal sparkling wines (single fermentation) in an even more natural approach. We welcome Brittany of Skurnik to taste and share more about the history of the family's wines. We'll have five wines (three sparkling, two still) to share with you. We'll have some bottles of each wine to sell and can take orders if we run out.
The tasting will be 6-8pm on Thursday, September 11th, 6-8pm, taste at your own pace. Pouring will begin at 6pm and end at 8pm so please give yourself enough time to taste through the wines. Please RSVP so we can get an idea of who is attending but you don't need to pay until that evening. The tasting will only be $25.
We'll have our snacks menu, you can order from Ray Ray's Hog Pit or JT's Pizza & Pub, or we encourage you to visit one of our neighboring restaurants before or after the tasting. Get waffle fries from Ray Ray's to go with the bubbles! Thanks to Brittany for supporting this special event at Aardvark.
