Keynote: Is the Patient at Increased Risk for Symptoms? Unraveling Concepts in Precision Science
Christine Miaskowski
Dr. Christine Miaskowski is a Professor the Department of Physiological Nursing and Sharon A. Lamb Endowed Chair in Symptom Management Research in the School of Nursing at the University of California in San Francisco. She is the first nurse to be awarded an American Cancer Society Clinical Research Professorship.
Dr. Miaskowskiβs program of research focuses on the identification of phenotypic and molecular characteristics that place patients at increased risk for the development of the most deleterious symptoms that occur from cancer and its treatment. With over 35 years of continuous NIH funding, Dr. Miaskowski has done intervention studies to improve cancer pain management, as well as longitudinal studies to characterize inter-individual variability in numerous symptoms experienced by cancer patients and their family caregivers. Dr. Miaskowski is the author of over 750 peer-reviewed publications and four books.
Dr. Miaskowski has received numerous honors and awards including the Distinguished Researcher Award from the Oncology Nursing Society, the Distinguished Merit Award from the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care, the Wilbert Fordyce Clinical Investigator Award from the American Pain Society and the Ada Sue Hinshaw Award from the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research. In addition, she received Distinguished Service Awards from the Oncology Nursing Society and the American Pain Society.[JB1]
