Join artist Raphael Hynes for this 6 week series of lectures focusing on the painters' journey into modernism.
The lecture series will take place in-person at the gallery on Friday mornings at 11am from October 3rd to November 7th.
Tickets are €6 per lecture or €25 for the series

6-Lecture Series
Week 1, Friday 3rd October: Neo-Classical to Romantic to Realist Art
Raphael Hynes discusses how artists responded to the Enlightenment, which brought about huge political and social change.
Week 2, Friday 10th October: Fallacy of the Innocent Eye
Raphael Hynes discusses when Modern life becomes the subject for the artist.
Week 3, Friday 17th October: Reality is a State of Mind
Raphael Hynes discusses when the artist no longer feels obliged to depict a “realistic” representation of the world but instead creates a personal vision in which colour and brush work are used as a means of expression.
Week 4, Friday 24th October: The Painting is its own Reality
Raphael Hynes discusses when the flat surface of the painting becomes all important as the artist turns away from depicting the illusion of three dimensional space and concentrates instead on the expression of emotions.
Week 5, Friday 31st October: The Painter and the Photograph
Raphael Hynes discusses when the painting becomes its own reality with the advent of Photography
Week 6, Friday 7th November: The Impossible Heap
Raphael Hynes' final lecture explores the path of Painters who turned away from Abstraction & Photography, returning instead to working directly from life.
