We invite you to a unique workshop with Anton Adasinsky and DEREVO ArtHouse, dedicated to the art of Butoh and the “DEREVO Rules.”
From its very first steps, DEREVO sought to go beyond traditional theatre. Lakes, rooftops, ship holds, industrial ruins, churches, coastlines — these were the stages of their earliest performances. Even while participating in festivals, the collective found ways to break the format: from the “Masks in the Square” action in Croatia to “catching the scarecrow” on Nevsky Prospect.
In the 1990s, a fateful meeting occurred with Katsuo Ono — a master of Japanese Butoh. Ono was the first to link DEREVO’s name with the Japanese dance revolution. This led to tours in Japan, study, and eventually the “Mad in Japan” festival in St. Petersburg, where the meeting of East and West created the unique system called the “DEREVO Rules.”
There are 17 rules in total.
These are principles that apply not only to the stage but also to life: attitudes toward reality, partners, the body, work, and imagination.
Working with these rules changes you. Irreversibly.
At the workshop, you will immerse yourself in this process. It’s challenging. It requires courage. But if you want to jump beyond your limits — this is the path.

After 5 days of intensive work with artists from different countries Anton Adasinsky will show the final part of the work - a performance created during these days in Derevo ArtHouse.
Absolutely new. It is based on the ideas of the artists who created the material during this week. These are author's etudes filled with absolutely personal author's material.
One of the objectives of these days was exactly that - self-realisation, use of personal experience and knowledge. After all, it is not make-up and costume or marvellous light and music that ultimately attracts the audience. What is most important is what happens in the artist's soul. Isn't it? And that is what you will see and feel.
This workshop is designed for those interested in physical movement theatre, for passionate beginners, as well as for advanced actors, singers and musicians who want to improve their acting in movement.
