Waitress: The Musical (2023) is a filmed version of the Broadway stage show, featuring Sara Bareilles as Jenna, a pie-baking waitress seeking to escape an abusive marriage, which premiered in theaters in December 2023 and is now available for streaming and purchase. The film captures the final Broadway cast during a limited run in 2021, with music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles and a book by Jessie Nelson, and was directed for the stage by Diane Paulus and for the film by Brett Sullivan. It tells the story of Jenna's journey of self-discovery, supported by her coworkers and an unexpected romance, exploring themes of female empowerment and resilience.
