Makers Open Studios: Barbara Backman

Makers Alley, in participation with RAC’s ARTOber, presents the Makers Open Studio Tour experience, offered to the public as a way to learn from masterful artisans and get an in depth look into their studio practice. Throughout the month of October, “mini master classes” from different artsist will be offered each weekend, check out the rest of our events for more opportunities! Works are for sale and commissions are available.

Barbara Backman is an renowned artist working with pastel and acrylic as her primary mediums. Learn more about Barabara through a provided statement:

"An award-winning pastel and fine art painter, Barbara’s work weaves together atmosphere, emotion, and timeless beauty. Her paintings—spanning evocative landscapes, soulful portraits, and expressive animal studies—have been juried into numerous prestigious exhibitions, including the International Association of Pastel Societies and the Philadelphia Pastel Society National Shows. In the fall of 2025, her pastel Sweet Music was not only accepted but also chosen to promote the Philadelphia Pastel Society’s national exhibition—an honor that reflects the strength and resonance of her work.

During studio tours, visitors are welcomed into her creative process—viewing works in progress, finished paintings, and the techniques that transform fleeting moments into enduring fine art."
