Sol Knopf, Mariano Mallia and Patty Blee in the Round
Fri, Oct 3
Kent County Theatre Guild Patchwork Playhouse, 140 E. Roosevelt Ave, Dover, DE
Join Sol Knopf, Mariano Mallia and Patty Blee in the round at the Kent County Theatre Guild's Patchwork Playhouse on Friday October 3, 2025.
Patty Blee's husky voice, confessional songs and rootsy sound have earned numerous comparisons to the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Patty Griffin and Shawn Colvin. After years developing her distinctive phrasing and rhythmic guitar style playing lounges and casinos along the Jersey Shore, in 2002 she recorded her solo debut. Patty's well-regarded Treasure Records cd, "DISGUISE" is 13 tracks of pure heart and soul, memorably solidified by a strong and unmistakable voice that's surrounded by some of the finest roots-rock musicians around. "DISGUISE" is a refreshing look at a genre that increasingly knows no bounds. If you can imagine Sheryl Crow meeting Bonnie Raitt in a corner bar as they kick back a few cold ones with Lucinda Williams, then you'll have no problem envisioning Patty pulling up a stool and fitting right in.
"In short, I was knocked out.," said Peter North, Music Director of CKUA (Edmonton, Canada)
A pivotal stepping stone in Patty's run of success was her performance at the Appel Farm Music and Arts Festival (Elmer, NJ) alongside the likes of Jackson Browne and Jonatha Brooke. Patty has appeared on the renowned "Folk Show" on WXPN/Philadelphia with Gene Shay and was selected to perform at the NEMO Music Showcase and Conference in Boston and N2MC in Nashville. NEMO also included Patty's "Right Between You and Me," from DISGUISE for inclusion on its compilation CD. GuitarGirls.com, which named PATTY BLEE its Artist of the Month in April, has now selected another DISGUISE track, "I Believe In This Love," for inclusion on its Compilation CD, which benefits AIDS organizations worldwide through the Mercury Phoenix Trust, set up by the surviving members of Queen in memory of Freddie Mercury.
Recorded and co-produced by Randy Friel (BeauSoleil) and Richard Crooks at Scullville Studios and mixed by legendary recording engineer Shelly Yakus (John Lennon, Tom Petty), DISGUISE is sure to have a permanent spot in any aficionado's collection. The stellar group of talent behind Patty includes Bob Dylan band regulars Larry Campbell on guitar and Tony Garnier on bass, with Richard Crooks (Bob Dylan, Dr. John) on drums. John Hammond Jr. makes a guest appearance on harmonica as well as Augie Meyers (Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Doug Sahm) on accordion. Even violinist/vocalist Soozie Tyrell (Bruce Springsteen, Shawn Colvin, Sheryl Crow) lends a hand...
Patty has developed a distinctive guitar style full of bass lines and grooves, and has intertwined memorable melodies into mid and uptempo songs of love and longing. A wide range of influences are evident -- blues, folk, country, and rock.
The Atlantic City Press said the album displayed, "wonderfully written and crafted songs." and was chosen 17 in their list of the top 50 CD releases for the year.
She has since released "ACOUSTIC VIBE", "THE HIGH STREET SESSIONS" (with Ernie Trionfo as guest guitarist) and "FROM THE INSIDE" 6 tracks of pure heart and soul, memorably solidified by a strong and unmistakable voice that's surrounded by some of the finest americana musicians around. This release reveals a refreshing look at a genre that increasingly knows no bounds, inspired by her travels from coast to coast and heart to heart...
As Blee told Atlantic City Weekly, she has always been inspired by "acoustic-based singer-songwriters - writers who display incredible courage by what they reveal of themselves. Songs written by the blood of the heart appeal to me."
Mariano Mallia is a Delaware raised, Nashville based, modern folk songwriter. He's overcome a tremendous amount of adversity in his young career after losing his voice and then coming back. It was December of 2018 when singer/songwriter/producer Mariano Mallia suffered a vocal injury that would severely alter his way of life. His vocal cords had become partially paralyzed, and the young singer had lost his ability to sing and speak normally.
After four years of recovery and determination, Mallia has burst back onto the scene with his emotive stories, captivating melodies, and his ability to take listeners on a journey with his raw and unique production style. Despite his vocal challenges, Mallia refused to give up on his dream of pursuing music.
Fast forward to today and his music is now on all major listening platforms and his growing catalogue boasts over half a million listens. Mallia has been featured on iHeart Media’s “Nashville”s Next”, and his music has been heard on stations across the country including 94.7 WDSD, 93.7 WSTW, 95.3 WCHE, 98.5 WNUW, DOC Radio, and many others.
Upon looking back on his struggle, Mallia says, “Sometimes the obstacle that doesn’t make any sense is exactly what you need to gain the strength to get back up and go even further.” Mallia hopes that his story and songs can inspire others to keep chasing after their dreams and to never quit in the face of adversity.
