It’s Okay to Have Feelings: A Peyton’s Palace Adventure is a mental health therapeutic picture book series, aimed at providing successful emotion regulation tools which build upon one another progressively. While enthralled in a magical castle adventure, Peyton, and her friend, Freddy Feelings, encourage healthier perspectives regarding emotions and teach helpful skills, based upon Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, designed by Marsha Linehan. These tools, once practiced on a regular basis, have been supported by numerous research studies as leading to significant symptom reduction, improvement in cognitive executive functions, and social emotional wellness.
Too often children go through life emotionally and socially unprepared to manage stressors and challenges life can bring. Children need our help. So, let’s give them the right tools for healthy social and emotional wellness.
Patricia is a licensed clinical counselor supervisor and licensed social worker with 35 years of experience. She has a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Psychology from the University of Akron and a Master’s Degree in Counseling & Human Development from Walsh University. Ten years ago she was hired to develop the therapeutic curriculum in the Intensive Outpatient Program at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital Behavioral Health. Since that time, this curriculum has benefitted a significant number of people from all walks of life.
During her presentation, she will explain the foundations beneath her picture book series, how this series was born, and how the practice of certain Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills just 5 minutes a day leads to the development of healthy neuro pathways in the brain and the many benefits this can have on children’s mental health and their ability to cope with life’s daily stressors. She extends a special thank you to Headline Books for believing in this much needed therapeutic picture book series!
