This session will focus on a practical, clinically relevant approach to managing surgical and traumatic wounds in small animal practice.
It will cover wound assessment and classification, decision-making around primary vs delayed closure, bandaging principles and strategies to optimise healing while minimising complications. Dr Jun-Yan Sek will also touch on common pitfalls, case examples and tips that can be applied in day-to-day practice.

About the Presenter:
Dr Jun-Yan Sek grew up in Singapore and has always been fascinated by animals and the natural world. After completing a Bachelor of Science in 2006, he worked in developmental biology and conservation research before pursuing veterinary medicine.
He graduated from James Cook University in 2016 and went on to complete a rotating and surgical internships in Brisbane, followed by a small animal surgery internship in Sydney and postgraduate training at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Jun-Yan later returned to Australia. to complete a small animal surgery residency across Sydney and Melbourne. He is working towards completing his specialist board examinations with the European College of Veterinary Surgeons. His interests include wound reconstruction, neurosurgery, and fracture management. Passionate about teaching, he is also an Adjunct Surgical Lecturer at James Cook University, guiding senior veterinary students.
Outside of work, Jun-Yan enjoys fishing, especially travelling to remote regions for pelagics, spending time outdoors, and baking (usually only when persuaded by his nurses).
