Madness - Manx Philosophical Café

What is madness? 👀

Socrates spoke of philosophy as a madness that strives for wisdom. But isn’t madness anathema to rationality? 🤔

How do historical and social context determine the limits of what is normal and what is crazy? When is something a mental disorder, as opposed to not fitting in? ⚖ Do the ideas of divine madness and poetic madness still have a function to play in our modern society? 🧐
