About the Event
Join us for a two-part conversation series presented as part of Visions of the Harbour exhibition at Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf.
These discussions bring together artists, scientists, and cultural practitioners to explore Sydney Harbour as a living system, a place of creative inspiration, First Nations significance, and rich ecological interconnection. Through art, dialogue, and shared reflection, the series invites audiences to consider how we come to know a harbour: through story, observation, and care.
Presented in partnership with the National Maritime Museum.
Talk 1 - Cultural Currents
1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Moderated by Sep Pourbozorgi, Director of Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf, with artists Mark Maurangi Carroll, Eytan Messiah, and Matthew Poll from the Australian National Maritime Museum. This conversation reflects on the harbour’s cultural, historical, and artistic layers, and how creative practice engages with its evolving stories and identities.
Talk 2 - Living Systems
2:00 PM - 3.00 PM
Facilitated by Maya Martin-Westheimer, Curatorial Assistant at Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf and leader of creative platform Floorplan Studio, this conversation features representatives from the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS) Living Sea Wall team, marine microbiologist and artist Penelope Ajani and artist Kalanjay Dhir. Together, they explore the harbour as an interconnected ecosystem to make visible the fragile and resilient networks of marine life and the unseen worlds of the local enviroment.
