Chauncey Park gravel entrance road at the corner of Stanley & Danforth Avenues in Dobbs Ferry NY 10522
21-29 Danforth Avenue, Dobbs Ferry, United States
This volunteer event, hosted by Groundwork Hudson Valley, will a continuation of past "Trees for Tributaries" joint projects with the Dobbs Ferry Conservation Advisory Board (CAB) along the Sawmill River in Dobbs Ferry, focusing on planting native trees and shrubs (and removing invasive plants) along the banks of the Sawmill River to protect its ecosystem and prevent erosion and flooding.
It is fine if volunteers can only come for part of the entire time.
The event will be held on NY State land adjacent to Dobbs Ferry's Chauncey Park, which sits along the Sawmill River adjacent to the Rivertowns Square shopping area and The Danforth apartment complex. The CAB is pround to again be cooperating with Groundwork Hudson Valley (the local environmental activity organization) and the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation.
Volunteers may need to temporarily put on provided wader boots to get over to some of the planting areas and should be prepared to possibly get a bit wet. Volunteers will use shovels and other tools to clear invasive species, dig holes and plant native species along the riverbank.
Volunteers should otherwise wear long pants and long sleeves, sturdy shoes, work gloves and bug spray. Shovels and other tools will be available, but if any volunteers can bring additional ones they would be very welcome!
Tickets for Saturday 10/11 Volunteer Native Tree & Shrub Planting - Dobbs Ferry can be booked here.
