Ukrainian Christmas Supper Workshop

In Ukrainian tradition, the 12 Christmas dishes (or “Sviata Vecheria” – Holy Supper) are a cherished symbol of faith, family, and gratitude. Served on Christmas Eve, the twelve meatless dishes represent the twelve apostles and honor a year’s blessings from the earth. The meal begins when the first star appears in the sky, marking the birth of Christ. Traditional dishes often include kutia (sweet wheat with honey and poppy seeds), borsch, varenyky, holubtsi, mushrooms, fish, and uzvar (dried fruit compote). Each dish carries deep meaning — together they express harmony, abundance, and the unity of generations gathered around the festive table.

During this workshop, you will have the opportunity to savor 12 traditional Ukrainian Christmas dishes. Each dish is a treasure trove of flavors, history, and symbolism that reflects the rich heritage of Ukraine. Our knowledgeable instructor Lilia Symyrenko will guide you through the significance and cherished traditions associated with each dish. You'll discover the stories behind these culinary creations, making the meal not just a feast for your taste buds but also for your intellect and heart. $45 per 1 person or $80 per couple for 1.5h workshop.
