Come and sit with Alaynah Hensens as she reads her brand-new story at the Devonport Library for Nature Book Week. Meet the author and sit in for a reading of The Whale and the Astronaut, written and illustrated on the North West!
In this cosmic adventure from lutruwita/Tasmania, meet a pilot whale who, through a muddle-up between sky and sea, finds herself lost among the stars.
Tasmania is sadly a global hotspot for pilot whale strandings, and scientists are not yet sure why. It could be that whales get spooked by predators or underwater activity from humans, or mis-navigate and swim too close to the shore. It could also be that a single whale, through illness, muddle-up, or misadventure, leads the pod astray.
With stunning watercolour illustrations by Bee Naree, this story is a magical and metaphorical introduction to a local ecological issue for children of all ages.
