The Band of Iron Lions specializes in HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts), with a primary focus on training aspiring students in the art of the longsword. This iconic two-handed sword features a lengthy blade, a slender tip, and a broad crossguard, offering an exceptional balance between cutting, thrusting, and defensive capabilities.
Rooted in the teachings of Johannes Liechtenauer, a distinguished German master of the 14th century whose wisdom resonated throughout the Medieval era, our curriculum draws from surviving manuscripts. Graduates of our course not only master the longsword but also have the opportunity to explore a diverse array of weapon systems, including arming swords, shields, daggers, rapiers, sabers, and more.
Who can participate?
We provide class space for students aged 16 and older, with age exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis. Prospective students are encouraged to try our classes before committing to purchasing equipment. Newcomers and students have access to group equipment and will receive one month of complimentary tuition to kickstart their journey.
Tuition: $50 per month for Indoor Session

Classes are from 6:30–8:30 PM CST.
Please note:
- No food is allowed on site.
- Enter through the West office door and take the hallway to the library and chapel.
- Doors open at 6:15 pm and lock at 7:00 pm. Ring the doorbell to gain entrance for late arrivals.
- No pets allowed. Service animals are allowed with prior notice to the facility.
