The Golden Gates Gallop – A Race with Heart and Heritage
Born from a local resident’s passion for running and raising money for charity, the Golden Gates Gallop first took off in 1986. Now, 39 years later, this beloved community event is still going strong, bringing runners of all abilities together for a fantastic cause.
The Race
Starting beneath the iconic Napoleonic “golden” gates, the 5-mile, two-lap race winds through the breathtaking grounds of Elvaston Castle. Runners will conquer the legendary “gallops,” tackling its rolling ups and downs before crossing the finish line at the buzzing race village at Elvaston Cricket Club. For families and younger runners, the 2-mile fun run offers a single lap of Elvaston Castle’s scenic perimeter path—perfect for soaking in the atmosphere while being part of something special.
More Than Just a Race
Over the years, the event has raised thousands of pounds for Blood Cancer UK and continues to make a meaningful impact. The race village is the perfect place to celebrate post-run, with a lively family-friendly atmosphere, a bar, delicious refreshments, fundraising raffles, and local market stalls.
