About the Event

This is more than a music workshop—it’s a safe, powerful space for girls ages 9–19 to explore creativity, build resilience, and connect through community.

Through hands-on DJ training, movement, and cultural exploration, participants will gain the skills to mix beats and express themselves, while also engaging in conversations that link music to mental health, suicide awareness, and healing in Black and African ancestry communities.

Just as music can move a crowd, it can also move us toward wellness. This boot camp affirms the power of culturally grounded practices—like music, storytelling, and community—to break stigma, foster belonging, and support the mental health of young people.

What’s Included

* 🎧 **DJ Skills 101** — Hands-on training in mixing, beat matching, and transitions.

* 💃 **Movement & Icebreakers** — Fun activities to spark energy, connection, and confidence.

* 📖 **DJ History & Culture** — Explore the roots of DJing in Black and Latinx communities.

* 🧠 **Mental Health & Resilience** — Guided conversations on using music as a coping strategy and tool for suicide prevention.

* ✨ **Creative Identity** — Build your DJ persona and capture it in a professional photoshoot.

* 🎤 **Showcase** — Share your new skills in a supportive community circle.

Why It Matters

* Suicide is the **third leading cause of death** for Black youth ages 10–24.

* Between 2011 and 2021, suicide rates among non-Hispanic Black individuals increased by **58%**.

* Stigma and lack of culturally responsive care remain barriers for youth and families.

This boot camp is designed to counter those barriers—giving young women the tools to express themselves, find belonging, and connect music to healing.
