✦ About the Talk ✦
The New York Catskill Mountains was once home to over 500 modernist resorts. Located 90 miles northwest of New York City, the area was once known as the Borscht Belt. From the 1920s to the 1990s it was a haven for Jewish immigrants who were excluded from vacationing elsewhere. The Borscht Belt was the birthplace of stand up comedy and has connections to many aspects of American history in the 20th Century.
Join us for a fascinating presentation led by Louis Inghilterra, who will explore the architectural history of this forgotten paradise.

Louis is the co-founder of the Borscht Belt Historical Marker Project, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Jewish vacation destination in New York’s Catskill Mountains through the installation of roadside historical markers.
