Most of us are familiar with the Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr, which has been a part of 12 Step and other addiction recovery programs since 1941. But as useful as the Serenity Prayer is in the context of addiction and recovery, it is inadequate for the situation we find ourselves in today.

What do we do with the things we cannot change, but that our values will not allow us to accept?

John Beckett is a member of the Denton Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, where he served two terms as President and 16 years on the Worship Committee. John is a Druid in the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, a member of the Denton Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans, and a former Vice President of CUUPS Continental. He’s been writing, speaking, teaching, and leading public rituals since 2003. His books The Path of Paganism (2017) and Paganism In Depth (2019) are published by Llewellyn Worldwide. He is the co-editor of The Book of Cernunnos (2023) published by ADF.
