Labubus are the new creepy cute accessory everyone wants, but they’re expensive, hard to find, and often end up in the landfill.
Join us for a workshop where you can make your own custom “labubu” with repurposed materials with help from an experienced creature creator.
Starting with a pre-loved stuffed toy, you’ll create and attach hands, feet and a face made out of either polymer clay or felt. You can then sew on a ribbon and key ring to turn your creation in a hanging charm or holiday ornament.
All materials will be provided, including
• polymer clay
• felt
• ribbons
• needles and thread
• keyrings
• a small selection of small stuffed animals
You’ll leave this workshop with a one-of-a-kind creation that’s the perfect sustainable gift for friends, family or yourself!
Students are welcome to bring a stuffed animal of their own to transform.
Jeanette Laredo is a mixed media trash artist known for her large-scale creature
sculptures made from paper clay and repurposed materials. Her creations
include: Shameus, a many-eyed menace that represents an artist’s worst fears;
Megoosa, a chair made up of waterfowl; and Wurmer Herzog, a 10-foot worm made
from faux fur and 3D filament spools. Shameus won an award for most clever
chair and was voted the People's Choice at Denton’s inaugural Scary Chairy
Orchard, Megoosa is permanently on display at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios,
and Wurmer Herzog was previously on display at Thistle Creative Reuse and now
hangs above the bar at Jackie O's Cocktail Club in Fort Worth.
