FM409 returns to Kickback's Social Club on Sunday, September 28th for another BLUES JAM!!! 1pm - 4pm
1pm: FM409 hits the stage with their take on blues classics, as well as Griff's original material that debuted at #9 on the Billboard Music Top 100 Blues Charts! It just doesn't get any better!
2pm - 4pm: The band invites YOU to join them on stage for a TRADITIONAL BLUES JAM! Not Country, Not Pop, Not Originals - BLUES! We're not going for an "open mic" situation - there's plenty of those and they're wonderful. We're going old school blues jam with the best back up band in the business!
Just to make this abundantly clear....
A traditional blues jam is a collaborative, improvisational gathering where musicians of varying skill levels spontaneously play blues music together. Traditional jams are typically guided by an experienced host band - FM409 - that provides the basic equipment, such as drums and amplifiers, and facilitates the night. The process unfolds with a clear, but flexible, structure:
Set the tone: The house band usually plays an opening set to establish the mood and provide a solid foundation for the evening. ✅
Musicians sign up: A sign-up sheet is where guest musicians list their name and instrument to indicate they want to play. ✅
The lineup rotates: The bandleader calls up different musicians (one or a combination) to take the stage with the host band. ✅
Music is improvised: The core of the jam is improvisation over well-known blues forms, most commonly the 12-bar blues progression . The key and groove are agreed upon, or if everyone knows the same song - even better. ✅
Etiquette at a blues jam will make or break the vibe. Encourage everyone on stage and know the basics: Be familiar with common blues standards and progressions. Avoid calling out non-blues tunes, which is seen as disrespectful to the tradition.
