Hosted by Decatur Makers. Organized by the Decolonize Decatur Committee of Beacon Hill Black Alliance for Human Rights.
This zine workshop is to uplift Art for the People (AFP), a project of the Decolonize Decatur Committee. After the successful placing of "What Sonia Said" in 2021 (see picture) we are currently working on our second piece of public art on the Agnes Scott College campus, which will elevate Afro-Indigenous voices, making their history and culture more visible, and reclaim the stolen land, even if only symbolically. While we were successful in removing monuments to white supremacy, including the Genocide Cannon from the Decatur Square, we know that the ideologies that supported those monuments are still alive and well and very evident in our country and throughout the world. We invite you to learn more about AFP and to tell a decolonizing story through the zine you create, as we reimagine the world together.
