Synopsis:
Every relationship hits a glitch. Alyssa and Homer are feeling disconnected in their marriage – and it’s all due to the massively engrossing online game that’s wreaking havoc on the lives of couples everywhere. When she puts together a support group for other women in a similar situation, the game enters a new level where all’s fair in love and war. This hilarious and heartfelt play – a contemporary twist on Aristophanes’ Lysistrata – brings technology and community together in the most unexpected ways.
Cast Requirements:
The Athenian Players are looking for men and women of various ages for this production. Non-traditional casting is to be expected based on potential pool of actors and, as always, casting is open to both student and community members.
Cast of Characters:
ALYSSA – a high-functioning multitasking Woman with
squishy insides; our leader.
HOMER – her husband, a Man in a basement entrenched in
a virtual world.
CLEO – A pregnant military wife, and this is her entire personality. Visibly 4 or 5 months pregnant, wide-eyed and young.
RHONDA – A serial online shopper, image obsessed. Wears ridiculous clothes that you might find deeeeep in a clearance rack, like a sweater with a sparkly parrot on it. She looks like she’s trying to be 8 different women at once.
JEN – A very good photographer, a terrible socializer. Quiet, terrifyingly smart and a bit awkward.
MYRA – A gentle but quietly brilliant little old lady. Doesn’t quite seem to understand exactly where she is, but she’s up for anything.
Please either prepare a monologue, or be prepared to read a selection at your audition.
