What to do with a difficult diagnosis?

What do you do when you or someone you love starts feeling unwell and the doctor starts ordering tests? How do you react when you get a difficult diagnosis that may change your quality of life or shorten your life span? It can be scary and overwhelming to hear words like “cancer,” “heart failure,” “Parkinson’s Disease,” “Alzheimer's,” or other medical conditions that we’ve heard about or seen affect other people’s lives.
