Join us with General Manager and DVA artist IΩANNA (@cicada_ioanna) as she shares stories, insights, and lessons from her recent experience at the XV Florence Biennale, where she exhibited alongside Tim Burton and received a Lorenzo il Magnifico Award for Sculpture and Installation.
In this relaxed session, IΩANNA will talk about what it really means to internationalise your art practice — from applying and preparing for large-scale events like biennales and art fairs, to finding funding, shipping artworks, and building meaningful international connections.
Hear about:
✨ The difference between art markets, biennales, and curated exhibitions — how they work and what to expect
💡 The selection process (jury reviews, invitations, and insider tips)
💰 Funding and sponsorship — from grants to community and in-kind support
🚢 The practicalities of transporting and exhibiting work overseas
🎭 And a few funny behind-the-scenes stories of big personalities, big egos, and creative collaboration in Florence!
IΩANNA will also share insights from international artists she met in Italy — including some who are interested in exhibiting or undertaking residencies here in Darwin.
Come along for an inspiring and down-to-earth conversation surrounded by DVA’s current exhibition - O'Loughlin Catholic College's Creative Arts Exhibition.
