About Stan Cummings:
Stan founded the Orange County Marine Institute in 1977, which began construction in 1980. He continued to be instrumental in the Institute’s development, helping acquire the brig Pilgrim and the R/v Sea Explorer, as well as starting the Tall Ships Festival in 1986, which continues to this day as our Maritime Festival. In 1999, the OCMI became the Ocean Institute, and has continued to fulfill Stan’s legacy through providing programming that embodies the tagline he created, “Experience is the Teacher”.
