Advanced Digital Workshop

This Saturday hands-on workshop focuses on methodologies for designing the composition, the importance of light for creating depth and volume, the intention behind the image and the consideration of cultural symbols. Light Room Classic is used for post-production with advanced image processing. Last but not least is finding one’s creative voice through a review of one’s own images and the other participant's pictures.

In the morning we begin by analyzing historic and contemporary images through the lens of compositional techniques & lighting all the while considering the intention/design of the images. There are in classroom exercises for defining how formal shapes create powerful compositions and how to see the shapes in the field when shooting. We keep an eye out for how lighting & composition work together to create compelling images. All of this adds up to answer the age old question of what makes a good photo.

Next, we photograph professional models and conduct a live editing session in LightRoom, using advanced tools and techniques. During the editing session, we also analyze participants' images using the same criteria discussed in the morning session - composition, lighting and intention. The goal is to deepen participants' understanding of the key elements to consider when creating and evaluating images, whether viewed through the camera's viewfinder or in final edits.

If you have ever been at a cross roads about defining what is a good image, what to photograph, how to cultivate a lens based art practice or how to energize your image making, this workshop is for you.

Special emphasis is given to placing one's work in an historical and contemporary context while identifying personal threads of interest for inspiration be they technical, formal or aesthetic.

The workshop is geared toward DSLR and Mirrorless cameras and limited to 10 participants.
