🇬🇧 🎄 Santa Garden – The Christmas Crackpots from Cumbernauld
On December 6th last year, at Lime Crescent in Cumbernauld, we organised something that was meant to be a small Christmas experiment – and a way to say hello to our new neighbours.
We turned our garden into a magical place filled with lights – 12,000 Christmas bulbs, inflatable festive figures, handmade decorations… and of course, artificial snow (yes, we actually have a snow machine!).
No one left empty-handed – not even our four-legged friends! 🐾
Everyone, without exception, received a gift from Santa himself.
We were visited by nearly 400 people in a single evening, and throughout the month our garden attracted countless visitors.
This year, we want to do it again – but on a bigger scale!
We’re planning 26,000 lights, new decorations and inflatables, a five-level Christmas Village, Santa with his giant sleigh, a photo wall with a professional photographer, a mini food corner with free cake, popcorn, hot chocolate and non-alcoholic mulled wine, and a very special attraction for the kids – a 3-metre-tall Christmas Stitch! 🩵
We’re also preparing a handmade stall, where you’ll find our own handcrafted decorations, homemade preserves, jams, vinegars and natural cosmetics.

And, to keep tradition alive – every child will receive a gift from Santa. 🎁
We’re organising everything ourselves, with the help of friends – so far without commercial sponsors, but with endless passion, faith, and countless flasks of coffee ☕.
But it’s not just about fun.
This event also has a very important purpose – we’re raising funds for research into Weiss-Kruszka syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects our 12-year-old family member, Nikolas.
He experiences developmental delay, nonverbal communication, autism, kidney, heart and feeding issues, as well as internal organ anomalies whose growth and function are still a mystery to doctors.
Nikolas requires 24-hour care and attends Redburn Special School in Cumbernauld.
Further research on this condition could help not only him, but also other children around the world (to date, only 47 people have been diagnosed – data as of August 2025).
The event will be completely free, but we’ll also have donation boxes, with all funds going directly to research into Weiss-Kruszka syndrome.
Proceeds from the handmade stall will also be donated in full to this cause.

Every bit of help matters – even the smallest decoration or box of lights can help us brighten the garden and a few more smiles.
We especially need:
· sweets and small gifts for children,
· food supplies: disposable cups and plates, biscuits, hot chocolate, non-alcoholic mulled wine,
· Christmas lights, trees, and outdoor decorations (new or used).
