Midsummer Myth & Magic

Midsummer has always been a time of magic, from folklore to fire festivals, and many of the ancient stone monuments that dot the Welsh landscape light up with the sunrise or sunset at the summer solstice. Join historian Ruth Poultney for a evening exploring the significance of the longest day of the year to our Celtic ancestors, from the Stone Age to the Iron Age.

Before Shakespeare’s fairies and before the Church dubbed it St John’s Eve, Welsh warriors and weavers gathered to retell their myths, feast, fight and have fun. Get hands on with artefacts from Welsh prehistory, find out more about how the earliest people in Wales celebrated the summer season, strike a pose with sword and shield, and hear tales of golden hoards, sacred waters and sun chariots from thousands of years ago.
