Before booking your place, please ensure you have read the Embark Dog Training Terms and Conditions, particularly regarding our cancellation policy, our reward-based-only approach to handling and rules on aversive equipment in the 'Attendee Instructions' section
What does the course cover:
*How to handle your puppy positively
*How to reinforce desirable behaviours
*How to get through the less desirable puppy behaviours
*Helping your puppy when they are frightened, confused or over-excited
*Appropriate behaviour around other dogs and people
*Focus and engagement
*Co-operative care
What is co-operative care?
It is a collaborative approach between an animal
and their guardian, rooted in building trust and a
good relationship, in order to perform necessary
husbandry and handling.
Using positive reinforcement training we can teach our dogs (or other animals) to be happy to
participate in handling procedures such as health checks, veterinary care, putting on equipment and grooming.
What can I use it for?
Nail trims
Giving medications such as eye and ear drops
Supporting your dogs with vaccinations and health checks at the vets
Grooming
Tick removal
Wound care
What are the benefits?
Enhanced relationship with your dog as they build a sense of trust and safety with you;
Reduction in stress for you and your dog: no more forcibly holding them or coercing them into a situation;
Increased confidence for your dog;
Increased safety for the humans: reduced likelihood of escalation of aggressive behaviours as the dog feels comfortable;
Our dogs showing increased impulse control and a more optimistic outlook on life.
What will we do on the course?
Teach your dog some tricks that are fun to learn and increase confidence between you and your
dog!
Teach your dog how they can opt in or out of
being handled. Giving them an “out” often
boosts confidence in wanting to participate
Learn more about our dogs, read their emotions
and any signals they may be showing us that
they are uncomfortable or comfortable
Dealing with emergency handling situations -
how to prepare your dog!
...as well as everything else you would expect from a puppy course and lots lots more besides!
One of the sessions will take place at the Tail Mill Tail Trail secure field to work on recall and loose-lead walking - which date is yet to be confirmed (weather dependent).
Also, registering for this course also gives you free access to my Puppy Life-Skills Course Academy (login details sent in my confirmation email), which is a website of a great many videos for all your puppy training and behaviour needs, from how to teach basic behaviours to advice on house-training, chewing and puppy biting.
