This showcase of original music happens 1st and 3rd Wednesdays each month at Smokey Jo's. Different writers each month. This is not an open mic event. Here is the format:
I’ll start out at 6:00 with a set of my songs. Then we will hear from our featured songwriters:
Patrick Spiroff
Patrick is a singer/songwriter living in Frankfort/Southwest Suburbs of Chicago. He considers himself a storyteller. weaving tales that are either partially fact based or made up wholecloth.
Patrick’s songs are engaging, emotional, and thought provoking all while he evokes different genre styles and tempo.

The Brickler-Klein Project featuring the music of Tom Brickler – aka “The Wabash Kid” and Will Klein
Tom has been playing music and making recordings for over half a century here in the Chicago area. His songs are in a variety of genre from folk, blues and “Almost Country” (title of one of his albums). The recordings he has made represent many styles and genre as well.

Tom's most recent recording project, “Negative Space”, has just been completed and pressed. CD copies of the project will be available to the public at his live performances.
Will Klein
Will, a NW Indiana native, is a fine vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. On his many recording projects, he plays guitar, bass, flute and other assorted instruments to accompany his smooth vocal and inventive lyrical content.
Will’s most recent release, “Likely Stories”, was just released in March of 2024 on Bandcamp and other streaming platforms. This is only the most recent of many collaborative and solo recording projects over the years including titles by Idinois and the Brickler-Klein project. Rick Pryzdia
Rick Pryzdia is a singer/songwriter from the of Chicago, Illinois. He started playing guitar when he was six years old and has been writing songs for most of his adult life. His songs and soft voice are enhanced by a focus on finger-style guitar playing, which he studied under masters Shinobu Sato (US) and the late John Renbourn (UK). He has performed throughout the Chicago area, San Francisco, Nashville, New York, Boston, and London.
Barry Sperti
Barry is an esteemed performer and a local treasure. He has performed internationally with several well-known groups and is a recording artist in his own right.
Mr. Sperti is currently band leader, lead vocalists and saxophonist for two of the area’s prominent bands - both bands with decades of performance history in the region – “The Matteson Allstars” and “The Saxophones”. Both of these local acts perform his original music as part of their regular show. Barry is also a member of The Big Squeeze Band and continues his freelance work as saxophonist and vocalist with several regional society bands.
For this event, Barry will be presenting songs from his extensive songbook to be performed in this intimate setting. Barry’s music is timely and covers many subjects from love songs and nostalgia to political and social statements.
