On Saturday, November 29th, Crestline kicks off the holiday season with “Holiday in the Pines,” a Dickens-themed celebration of giving all day long. You’ll find small-town shopping with "Shop Small", huge six- and eight-foot ornaments being installed around town, a Christmas tree decorating contest (you get to vote on the winner), and designated shops offering complimentary cocoa and cider. The Chamber is hosting an early morning breakfast, Santa will be at the pawn shop, and a local radio station will be broadcasting live. Strolling minstrels, carolers, and characters in Victorian, steampunk, and Old West–style outfits will be up and down the streets, along with live art and music demonstrations, poetry, and tiny pop-up scenes from Jeff Heisler’s cast of “A Christmas Carol,” promoting their Tudor House opening December 19th.
Throughout the day, many shops will offer hands-on art activities where visitors can interact with local artists, make their own ornaments, watch ornaments and other creative gifts being made, and take home something they helped create. There will be a festive scavenger hunt that leads you through Crestline’s stores to see their decorations and holiday cheer. As you shop for gifts on this small shopping day, you’ll also be giving back—some businesses will collect food donations or donate a portion of their sales to local food banks. Expect filming throughout the day, plus contests for best costume and standout musical talents with thew strolling minstrels.
