Talk Title: The Rare Finds of a Global Bottle Collector

Bio: Tommy Byrd is 6th generation native Crescent Citian (his mother’s side). He retired after 22 years with the U.S. Coast Guard and then returned to Crescent City where he worked 17 years in J.R. Newbold's fernery.
Tommy is an avid bottle collector and global relic hunter. Bob Lee will interview Tommy about his bottle collecting adventures in and around Crescent City, and how he acquired a unique collection of WW2 artifacts while stationed as a Coast Guardsman on the island of Iwo Jima. His private collection rivals that of many museums. Some of the less fragile relics will be available for viewing. Others will be shown and easily viewed in high quality PowerPoint photos. The FPHS November meeting will be the first time a selection of these historic artifacts will be available for viewing by the public.
