The NJ Federation of Camera Clubs for Photorama 2026, presents a celebration of photography with professional photographer David Akoubian, sponsored by Tamron.
Join renowned nature photographer David Akoubian for an immersive exploration into the art and technique of capturing the natural world. Over the course of two engaging morning sessions, participants will embark on a comprehensive journey through two of the diverse realms of nature photography. David Akoubian will share expert insights and guidance, focusing on both the sweeping vistas of landscape photography and the intricate details revealed through macro and close-up techniques.
In the afternoon, participants will join David Akoubian for an in-depth session dedicated to the art of wildlife photography. This segment is designed to immerse you in the unique challenges and rewards of capturing animals in their natural habitats. David will share professional techniques for observing and photographing wildlife, including tips on approaching subjects without disturbing them, understanding animal behavior to anticipate compelling moments, and selecting the right equipment and camera settings for dynamic, fast-moving scenes.
As the afternoon draws to a close, get ready for a hands-on photography extravaganza! This is your chance to unleash your creativity. You’ll rotate through a variety of exciting stations—snap dynamic portraits of live models, experiment with macro set-ups, and try your hand at imaginative still-life scenes. Whether you’re capturing the delicate details of a flower or the expressive pose of a model, every station offers a new adventure and a fresh perspective.
Bring your favorite gear—camera, lenses, tripod, and flash—because you’ll want to try out different techniques and settings as you move from one fun station to the next. Swap tips with fellow participants, get instant feedback, and see your skills grow in real time. It’s not just a practice session—it’s a celebration of photography, creativity, and community. Expect laughter, learning, and lots of memorable shots to take home!

ABOUT DAVID AKOUBIAN
David has been a photographer since 1972 when his father presented him with his first camera, but his career in photography started in 1992. David learned his craft originally as a painter and from his father who shares his love of nature and photography. Early in his career he traveled with, learned from and taught beside some of the masters of nature photography including John Shaw, Art Wolfe, Galen Rowell, Bryan Peterson, Pat O'Hara, and Rod Planck. David has been teaching photography since 1994 in the classroom and leading workshops around the United States. David presents and leads workshops at many of the country’s top photographic conferences such as the Photographic Society of America Annual Conference, as well as many camera clubs across the United States.
David's clients include, but are not limited to, Coca Cola, PNC Bank, Tamron, the Mountain Conservation Trust of Georgia, Lensbaby, The Nature Conservancy, Scholastic Books, and Gibbs Gardens. His photographs and articles have appeared in publications such as Nature Photographer, Audubon Magazine, Blue Ridge Country, Birder's World, Outdoor Photographer, Backpacker Magazine, and many local publications. His work has appeared in several feature books, calendars, as well as in instructional guides. David is a Tamron Image Master, Kase Filter Ambassador, and an f-stop Gear Pathfinder.
Bear Woods Photography is the photography of David Akoubian. David resides in the mountains of North Georgia with his wife Evelyn in an area they have named Bear Woods.
