The Broken, The Useless...

In a world obsessed with order and identity, every person carries a paper profile detailing who they are — from their appearance and humour to their usefulness to society. When they come of age, a single word is stamped onto their record: Useful or Broken.

Those deemed Broken disappear overnight, awakening in a vast white void with only a suitcase of papers — the sum of their supposed selves. Each page lists their traits, choices, and perceived flaws. Together, these lost souls sift through the fragments of who they were told to be, questioning every label, every judgement, every quiet moment of doubt.

As they debate, clash, and connect, the void begins to shift — responding to their discoveries, their healing, and their honesty. Some learn to forgive themselves; others resist, clinging to the comfort of definition. Through their journey, the group must decide whether the labels that shaped them are truths, lies, or simply reflections of fear.

At its core, Useful / Broken is a surreal and emotionally charged exploration of identity, self-worth, and the systems that decide our value. Blending introspective drama with elements of speculative fiction, the series follows a group of strangers as they navigate a dreamlike purgatory — part therapy session, part mirror to society — where the only way out is through self-understanding.

Visually minimal yet emotionally vast, Useful / Broken asks one haunting question:
If the world told you what you were, would you believe it?
