About the event

From Birth to Death and Everything in Between: The Work of an 18th Century Midwife
Beverly Willnauer, a 40 year veteran in the reenactment community and member of the Nathan Hale Homestead staff will dispel the myth that midwives just delivered babies. Midwives were critical to their communities, especially in rural areas such as Northeastern Connecticut. Many communities did not doctors and midwives were the primary medical providers for many of these areas. Their training came in the form of apprenticing from older midwives or passing their trade down through the family.
