The Past Pages Book Club meets monthly at the Cortland County Historical Society, and we usually read local and regional history. Because of the approaching 250th anniversary of the United States, this year, we are using the American Revolution to guide our book selections. To refresh our collective memory about Revolutionary War history, we will be reading a mix of national and state history as well as historical fiction.
For March, we will take a look at the infamous traitor, Benedict Arnold. You can choose one of the following books or locate another relevant title. We'll discuss what we've learned from the titles we chose. Some of our best discussions occur when we come at a topic through the lens of several books!
Choose one of these (or any other Benedict Arnold related book of your choice):
~"Treacherous Beauty: Peggy Shippen, the Woman Behind Benedict Arnold's Plot to Betray America" by Mark Jacob and Stephen H. Case
~"God Save Benedict Arnold: The True Story of America's Most Hated Man" by Jack Kelly
~"Valiant Ambition: George Washington, Benedict Arnold, and the Fate of the American Revolution" by Nathaniel Philbrick
We will meet on Saturday, February 21st at 10am at 25 Homer Avenue. Hope to see you there!
