Lunch & Learn: The Busy Hamlet of Babcock Hollow

In the northeastern corner of the Town of Harford, Cortland County is a small hamlet known as Babcock Hollow or “the Hollow.” The road that leads to this very beautiful, secluded, protected valley is called Babcock Hollow Road. The Babcock family lived in this narrow valley in the mid-1800s, and this is how the road and valley got their names. This once bustling hamlet was also home to many other families that lived in the valley, on the surrounding hills, and along the creek that flows to the Susquehanna River. So, let’s step back in time to find out about the various families, social activities, and industries that were once in this area of Central New York.

Bring your own lunch if you wish, and we will provide a beverage and dessert. Admission is free for members of the Cortland County Historical Society (CCHS) and $5 for CCHS members-to-be.
This event will take place at Harris Hall, the former Free Methodist Church at 9 Grace Street, Cortland.
