Join us for a day-long symposium marking the centenary of Cork University Press, Ireland’s oldest university press. This special event celebrates the Press' enduring contribution to Irish academic, cultural, and intellectual life, showcasing landmark publications, series, imprints and the people behind them.
The programme features reflections on early seminal works such as Dánta Grádha (1926), The Handbook of Irish Music (1928), and The Economic History of Cork City (1937), alongside more recent titles like Gaelic Games on Film (2019) and Irish Country Furniture and Furnishings (2020) as well as the landmark Atlas Series. Sessions will explore CUP’s role in shaping Irish Studies, public scholarship, and the evolving landscape of academic publishing.
Speakers include Prof. Linda Connolly, Feargal Keane, Dr Síle Ní Mhurcú, Prof. Cormac Ó Gráda, Iarla Ó Lionáird and Virginia Teehan, among others. The day will conclude with an evening reception in the UCC Staff Common Room.
This event is open to the UCC community, authors of the Press and the wider public with an interest in Irish culture and scholarship.
