About the event

A Week Of Practical Homesteading
This one week immersive course will introduce students to homesteading as a way of living.

What You’ll Learn:

The benefits of homesteading to people, planet and pocket
How to identify soil types, the importance of fertile soil and the role of compost
How to make compost
How to grow fruit, vegetables and herbs
How to keep chickens for eggs
Introduction to beekeeping and seed sowing
Practical cooking sessions
Preserving and fermentation
How to make butter, cheese and yogurt in our micro dairy
Bread making, Sourdough, Yeast, Soda...
Natural alternatives for cleaning and self care
How to moneitise homesteading by adding value to homegrown produce, trading at Farmer's Markets and more
Course Elements:

Tour of the organic farm, gardens and greenhouses
Cookery Demonstrations and Practicals
Practical sessions on soil, compost, seed sowing, orchard planting etc.
Q&A sessions throughout the day as we review each session and put theory into practice
Optional trip to Midleton Farmers Market on Saturday morning
Good to Know:

Indoor and Outdoor Classroom Learning
We’ll spend time walking and learning around the farm please bring suitable clothing and footwear - and allow for changeable weather!
Refreshments and Lunch included
The course is held at Ballymaloe Cookery School’s Organic Farm and Gardens in Shanagarry, Co. Cork P25 R274
Tea, Coffee and sourdough fresh from the Breadshed with jersey butter and homemade jam will be served from 8.45am on the first morning
Please arrive early to sign in and get ready for a busy week of hands on learning
