During this workshop we will work on the topic “Improvising Gender” using material by Stephen Davidson. We start low key and with less intensity and make time for processing and observing the different parts of the acting. Each workshop is independent and no prior experience with theater and/or with the group is required.
WHO WE ARE
This workshop is hosted by Queer Theater Group (formerly Queer Impro). We are a radical left group from Folkets Hus created for the community, to learn and improve, and have a nicer place to do theater as queer people.
WHAT WE DO
Each workshop we orientate us towards a text/method and triy to apply it together. We want to work with varies topics including reenacting/embodying conflicts, using theater to address social structures and also use different methods including impro, monolouges and play readings. All future workshops will be moulded by the wishes and needs of the community.
WHO CAN JOIN
We welcome a broad spectrum of queers and allies, but we do expect everyone to be able to follow these guidelines
- We support each other
- We don’t misgender people, we let people gender themselves in character and we strive to not make any assumptions about each other based on our perceived gender
- We never touch each other intimately or play harsh scenes of trauma, violence or intimacy unless explicitly and consensually agreed beforehand
- We debrief after each exercise
- No pressure to perform
- We use the workshops as a space to try-out ideas and have experiences together. You don’t need to participate in all workshops, but for each workshop we do expect you to commit to being on time and staying until the end
See you at Folkets hus 2nd floor 12-15! Bring a water bottle and wear whatever feels comfortable to you (the house can be a bit chill during the winter months).
